I’M NEW HERE

WHAT TIME ARE SUNDAY MORNING CHURCH SERVICES?
Gathering in the Spirit at 9:00 am
Sunday School for 9th Grade thru Adult at 10:00 am
Music programs/various activities for PreK-8th grade at 10:00 am
Traditional Worship service at 11:00 am

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO WORSHIP SERVICES?
The Gathering in the Spirit Service features music that is more uptempo than traditional hymns and is led by our Christian singing ensemble, Common Grace.  The service is non-traditional with more of a musical worship focus. The pastor does not wear a robe and stole at this service. Our traditional worship service features traditional hymns sung from the hymnal and accompanied by our organist.  The Chancel Choir and Celebration Ringers (bell choir) help us worship through music. Attendees of this service often enjoy worship traditions that have become familiar over the years. The same message is given during both services.

WHAT ABOUT A NURSERY OR SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR KIDS?
There is a nursery for infants and children thru preschool aged offered at both services.  We have a Jesus And Me (J.A.M) program offered during each worship service for children Pre-K thru 5th grade. Children begin the service with their families and then are dismissed to J.A.M where they will experience bible exploration, life application through mission, parent/education connection, and crafts.  When there is a 5th Sunday of the month, our youth will attend the full services with their families to learn about church structure, traditions, music and the message. On the first Sunday of the month they will join their parents at the end of the service for communion.

WHAT ABOUT TAKING COMMUNION?
As United Methodists we have an open table.  You do not need to be a member of this church, or any church, to come and receive communion at Christ’s table.  Communion is typically offered on the first Sunday of every month at both services.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Clothes. Casual attire is commonly worn, but some people choose to dress more formally.  Both are appropriate at either service.  Just come as you are, we are happy to welcome you.

IS THE FACILITY ACCESSIBLE?
GBUMC is handicap and wheelchair accessible.

WHAT ABOUT CONNECTING WITH OTHER PEOPLE?
We have fellowship time following each service.  Please stay and help yourself to refreshments, and engaging conversation.  We want to welcome you. In the Narthex, there is a Welcome Table with a small gift for first time guests, copies of our monthly newsletter,”Connections,” and other information about activities at GBUMC.  We also offer many other ways to connect with one another such as: United Methodist Women, United Methodist Men, youth group, prayer groups, small group studies, Seasoned Citizens, prayer shawl ministry, various choirs, food and fellowship, work with South Soup kitchen, and many more.  Rev. Del Pino is happy to discuss all of these opportunities and more if you are interested.  Just call our office at 810.694.9040 or send us a quick email at office@grandblancumc.org.
