I’M NEW HERE

WHAT TIME ARE SUNDAY MORNING CHURCH SERVICES
  • Our Non-Traditional Worship service begins at 9:00am
  • Traditional Worship service begins at 11:00am
  • Both our services are live streamed to our YouTube channel

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO WORSHIP SERVICES?
Our 9am worship service is our less traditional worship service, featuring music that is more up-tempo than what you’d find in our hymnals. The service is led by our pastor, as well as our Christian singing ensemble, Common Grace. The pastor does not wear a robe and stole at this service, but still shares a sermon, pastoral prayer, and some other familiar parts of Christian worship. The sacrament of Holy Communion is served every 1st Sunday of the month.

Our Traditional Worship service at 11am is anything but dull! It includes prayer, music, preaching, liturgy, and more familiar worship elements. Our music largely consists of hymns that are found in our hymnals and which are accompanied by our organist and pianist. We also have our Chancel Choir and Celebration Ringers handbell choir there to help us worship through music. Our pastor shares a sermon, pastoral prayer, and more each week. The sacrament of Holy Communion is served every 1st Sunday of the month.

WHAT ABOUT A NURSERY OR SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR KIDS?
We do have a nursery available for our little ones from ages 0-Kindergarten. This is just an option, please know that children of all ages are welcome in both of our worship services, along with their wiggles, giggles, and other energy! Crying is just one way to lift our voices to God!

We do have a Sunday school programs for children K-5th Grade that we call Jesus And Me (J.A.M.). It takes place during the hour between our worship services, beginning at 10am. During J.A.M., children will use the “Celebrate Wonder” curriculum. “This curriculum honors the spiritual life of children by engaging them in open-ended exploration and inquiry of the Bible. These classes are led by our volunteer teachers who are certified by our church’s child protection policy.

During the same 10am hour, middle and high school students also have a Sunday school class designed for them. Currently, they are using Rob Bell’s Nooma videos to spark discussions about life, faith, and God’s love.  In addition, each of our youth is given a Study Bible that they will use during Sunday School and to foster their own spiritual growth. There is also youth group that meets every Sunday evening from 5pm-7pm.  Please check our current Newsletter to see what service/mission projects our youth are working on and where we will be meeting each week.

We haven’t forgotten about adults! There are a variety of Christian Education opportunities for you, too. On Sunday mornings at 10am, there are a couple of small group adult classes that meet and explore scripture and faith together. Though they are small groups, you are always welcome to join. Throughout the week, there are even more Bible studies, small group gatherings, and more! Please be sure to visit our Get Involved page for more information.

WHAT ABOUT TAKING COMMUNION?
As United Methodists we have an open table for the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Quite simply, this means that you do not need to be a member of this church, or of any church for that matter, to receive Holy Communion. Typically, communion is offered during both worship services on the first Sunday of every month. Sensitive to continued health concerns, communion is served in a variety of ways that helps to decrease the risk of sharing germs.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Clothes are best! But seriously, please dress comfortably, and please be yourself! You can dress casually or more formally or somewhere in between. You’ll find it all here at GBUMC! What matters is that you’re here!

IS THE FACILITY ACCESSIBLE?
GBUMC is handicap and wheelchair accessible. In the sanctuary, you are welcome to sit or stand wherever you are comfortable. Should you have accessibility concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the office or speak with an usher on Sunday mornings.

WHAT ABOUT CONNECTING WITH OTHER PEOPLE?
We have a fellowship time we call “Coffee Hour” that takes place between our worship services at 10am on Sundays. Please stay and help yourself to refreshments and engaging conversation. We want to welcome you!

In the Narthex, just inside our main entrance, you will find a Welcome Table with a small gift for first time guests, copies of our monthly newsletter, and other information about activities at GBUMC. We also offer many other ways to connect with one another such as: United Methodist Women, United Methodist Men, youth group, prayer groups, small group studies, Seasoned Citizens, prayer shawl ministry, various choirs, food and fellowship, work with South Soup kitchen, and many more. Pastor Brian is happy to discuss all of these opportunities and more if you are interested. Just call our office at 810.694.9040 or send us a quick email at office@grandblancumc.org.
